MEETING NOTES 4-20 2015

 
Looks like we were almost back to normal today with Paul serving as President, and Gary, the Gray Sarge, returning to his duties as Sgt at Arms.  Still have a fill in Editarian, however.  
 
PP Lloyd Gottman, gave the invocation recalling that the definition of invocation is appealing to a higher authority for help.  He reminded us that Rotary could be considered a higher authority since we provide help to many others.

Greeters today were VP Pat Pogue and PP Bill McClay.
 
Some of members have returned from their travels.  Notably, PP Jim Suss was back from Florida as was Nancy Jones, who had the pleasure of attending the University of Miami’s Sports Hall of Fame Banquet, where her son, Casey, was stepping down as President of the organization after two years.  She was proud of Casey’s speech to more than 700 people.
 
 
We hear that PP Darryl Harvey was to be released from the hospital today.  He will need some time at home to continue to recover from his bout with pancreatitis.  Keep Darryl and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  Hurry back Darryl, the club (especially me) misses you as Editarian!
President Paul opened the meeting thanking VP Pat Pogue for filling in for him last week and for “not screwing up.”  But then, he said, “Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.”  Big laughter all around.
 
Because Pat Pogue has assumed the ascent to the Presidency, the position  director of the Community Service Committee needed to be replaced.  After somewhat of a struggle, the club voted in PDG Talee Crowe to assume that position for the next Rotary year.  There were murmurs of impeachment, recall, etc., but the vote still passed.
 
The next Ronald McDonald Dinner will be provided on June 17th.  Eight volunteers are needed.  Sign up sheets will be available in a couple of weeks.
 
PP Al Horton reminded us that Habitat for Humanity Workday is this Saturday.  If you haven’t already signed up and want to participate, contact Al.  Also several SHRC Rotarians are planning a trip to Romania.  If you are interesting in going see PP Bev Edwards or Vlad Lozinskiy.
 
The club had as its guest today Kathleen McBride, Director of Volunteer Services as Children’s Hospital.  You will recall that last month many Rotarians participated in an evening of activities for patients and siblings at Children’s Hospital.  PP Joe Hughes and Denny Passantino even painted the faces of some of the kids.  Kathleen thanked the club for their service and is looking forward to our next appearance.  They have a very strict health policy and if you have been exposed to anyone with a cough/fever within 2 weeks you are not allowed to participate.  As a Grandmother of 10, all under the age of 8, I am fairly certain I will never qualify to serve at Children’s Hospital!
 
The District Conference is May 1st.  Consider joining President Paul and Debbie and PP Joe and Cindy Hughes there.  They will have the club libations with them and we don’t want them to finish the stash off alone!
 
The Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 7th at CommonGround Golf Course.  We are shooting for 36 foursomes or 144 players.  So far we have 3 foursomes, so we only need 33 more to reach goal.  Think about sponsorships and consider becoming a hole sponsor yourself.  Chairman PP Joe Hughes has set the next golf meeting for May 5th at 5 pm at his home.
 
 
 
 
Save the date of June 29th for the Installation Banquet.  Club Services Director, Nancy Jones, explained our choices of two great locations for the event:  Il Fornio and the Great Northern Tavern. 
 
The Club took a vote and we will be going to the Great Northern Tavern.  Cost will be $45 per person (less the normal lunch charge for Rotarians). 
 
This event is for spouses and significant others, so ask them to mark their calendar now as we
celebrate the end of a great year and welcome President Elect Dave Maxwell and the new board.
