President Paul Urtz opened the meeting with three (3) rings of the bell to honor Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah, the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years.

It was noted that the Newsletter was not received by anyone in the club last week. I did, indeed, write the newsletter and sent it to PP Gary Fletcher to post it as I am not technologically savvy in the Club Runner software we are now using to send it out. Gary said he did post it, however it has been lost in cyberspace. I have asked the Gray Sarge to resend it to you all. I hate for all those hours of writing and editing to go nowhere.
It was great to see PP Darryl Harvey back with us today. He looks great despite feeling puny. His very bland diet has caused him to shed some 15 pounds. Not the best way to lose weight. He survives on oatmeal, cream of wheat and low fat dairy products. His taste buds have become affected by his illness and so many things taste metallic to him. Hang in there Darryl, this too shall pass.
Our Romanian travelers are back with great stories to share about their travels. PP Bev Edwards told me that they were treated like real celebrities. She promises a program on their experiences in the near future.
There will be a joint board meeting – old board and new board – on Thursday, June 18th at the home of President Paul and Debbie Urtz. A very brief meeting will be held at 5:45 PM followed by a catered dinner from Winston Hills Bar-B-Que, or as Paul puts it time to eat and drink. Paul likes Winston Hills, a former offensive lineman with the Broncos. He told us that when Winston was in high school in Texas he was the Texas Tennis Champ, quite a versatile athlete. The board meeting is open to all SHRC members and partners. Paul will send an email invitation and we are to RSVP to him directly.
The Installation Banquet will be held on June 29th at 6 PM at Il Fornio Restaurant on Belleview and Ulster. There are three entrée choices: Chicken, Salmon, and Pasta. Club Services Chair, Nancy Jones, once again passed around the sign-up sheet. 
PP Joe Hughes announced a golf committee meeting on Tuesday, June 16th at 5 PM at his home. Things are progressing nicely towards our August 7th Tournament date at CommonGround Golf Course. We may need a sponsor for the “goodie bags” this year. This would be a financial commitment of approximately $2,800 and/or advertising specialty products to fill those bags. We will know more after next week. Golf brochures are still available. See Joe if you need more to distribute. Good news is that former members Rex Crook and PP Sue Englestad are both playing and bringing foursomes.
A sign-up sheet was passed around for volunteers to help prepare dinner at the Ronald McDonald House on Wednesday, June 17th. We need 8 volunteers to arrive at 4:15PM to begin cooking. If you have not had a chance to participate in this very worthwhile event, consider signing up. If you missed the meeting today and want to help send an email to PDG Talee Crowe.
President elect Dave Maxwell has made his first official decision by declaring that we will meet on Monday, July 6th, the Monday after the 4th of July. We will hold a club assembly that day to learn about the plans for the upcoming year. Dave said his decision was in part a financial one, since every meeting we hold we make money. Those Rotarians who choose not to attend will be contributing to the treasury by donating their lunch money. Be there or be square!
The board is looking for feedback from the members regarding the requested price increase for our lunches from the Summit. This is the first price increase in 5 years. It will go from $13.50 per meal to $16.50 per meal. President Paul says he doesn’t know what the board will do with our feedback, but he wants it anyway.Incoming Program Chair Bruce Smith has lined up a great program for July 13th. Chief of Police Nick Metz will speak to us about his plans for the Police Department. This will be an excellent opportunity to invite prospective members.
And the Gray Sarge, PP Gary Fletcher, was in rare form again today when he commented that PP Joe Hughes was the only one he knew that could turn an invocation into a commercial for the golf tournament. It was nicely done, too! The Sarge was taken with our speaker today who declared him “Amazing” after only knowing him for a few moments. What does she know???
That said, I hope you enjoy his review of her program which follows, as I had an important appointment to attend and could not stay for her presentation. I hope you receive two Newsletters this week…last week’s “lost in cyberspace one”, and todays! Keep your fingers crossed…
