MEETING NOTES

 
President Paul Urtz opened the meeting today lamenting about our un-Spring-like weather. 
To remind us that it really is Spring, Paul wore a pink necktie featuring fish. 
Mick Stefan quickly kissed his tie upon recognizing his favorite creatures.

The invocation was given by PP Dr. Jim Wingert, who looked especially dapper in his sport coat.  The invocation was a tribute to his mother, Esther, who sadly passed away over the weekend.  I have known Esther for more than 20 years, and believe me she was an exceptional woman.  Having reached the golden age of 98, she passed on the farm she ran with her late husband, as was her wish.  Esther was a formidable person who always called the shots –( right Jim?) – and was fiercely proud of her son and her daughter, Gloria, as well.  Jim reminded us to remember those people in our lives who taught us integrity as his parents taught him.  We held a moment of silence as we remembered.  Nicely done, Jim.
 
The club was noticeably short on the distaff side on Monday.  As PP Bev Edwards said, “There is not much gender diversity today.”  Think of deserving women you know that might enjoy Rotary and invite them to a club meeting.
 
The group going to Romania include:  PP Bev and Myles Edwards, PP Betsy Jansen, and PE Dave Maxwell.  They will leave on May 18th to attend the dedication of the new maternity hospital that we helped to bring to Romania.  The dedication will be held on the 21st.  Bev promises to bring back pictures and great stories to share with us in an upcoming program.  Word has it that Bev and Myles will travel to Brussels and Belgium after their visit in Romania, Betsy will go to Budapest, and Dave is headed for Germany.  Upon their return, they will all have great stories to tell, I am sure.
 
PP Al Horton reported on the Habitat for Humanity build over the weekend.  Accompanying Al at the build were Hugh Radke, PP Craig Essex, and Denny Passantino, as well as Scott Schmidt, the potential Satellite Club member mentioned a couple of newsletters ago.  Al, who is also Membership Director, suggested that one way to interest people in our club is to bring them to our events to show them who we are. By all reports, the build was a lot of fun!
 
 
 
 
An update on PP Darryl Harvey:  He is better, in fact 1,000 times better, but not quite there yet.  Reports are that he is, however, enjoying his pain pills.  Continue to heal Darryl.  We miss you.
 
The district conference is this upcoming weekend in Keystone.  President Paul and Debbie Urtz and PP Joe and Cindy Hughes will be attending and drinking our clubs libations.  Even if you don’t attend the conference you are welcomed to join them for a drink or two…
 
And word from District Governor Peter Ewing is that our District 5450 will be coordinating a Nepal  Earthquake Relief Fund through the Boulder Rotary Club Foundation (a 501 3c organization).  Donations are tax deductible.  Shelter boxes have already been deployed and Shelter Box Volunteers are on the Scene.  See President Paul for the address of the Foundation.
 
The Gray Sarge, PP Gary Fletcher had two WOW’s for the day:  First, PDG Talee Crowe announced the birth of her 10th grandchild, Colette Michaela Crowe, born on Tuesday, April 21st, to son David and his wife, Kelli.  This makes 9 girls and 1 boy, the oldest of whom is 8 for this Grandma!
 
Next he retold his dream (nightmare) to the club.  Seems he was attending a District Conference when Hillary Clinton showed up and broke her necklace.  He spent the rest of the conference looking for glue. You’ve got to lay off the drugs, Gary!  And what’s up with all of the raffle winners coming from the same table this week?  Time for a new Sgt at Arms?
 
Ronald McDonald House Dinner coming up June 17th.  Former member and current eclub member PP Sue Engelstad will be serving with up.  Sign up sheets will appear in May.
