Club Assembly

-Mike rang the bell at 7:30 AM
-Steve led us in the Pledge and 4 Way Test
-Don had the Thought for the Day
-Mike reported on several Rotarians who were not in attendance.
-Charlie led us in singing Happy Birthday to Laurie.
-Mike handed out the Perfect Attendance Awards.
-Mike handed out the previously missing Rotarian of Month Awards to:
              Charlie-Sgt. at Arms duties
              Laurie-Speech Contest
              Ken-stepping in as Treasurer
 
-Laurie spoke about the Speech Contest and how the 2 young ladies enjoyed the experience.  Madeline will have a practice session with a Rotarian audience at the Clubhouse at Bear Creek Park (across from Mike and Janet’s cabin) on Wednesday, Feb. 17th at 4:00 PM.  All Rotarians are welcome to attend.
 
-Steve reported receiving a letter of thanks from the Dictionary Company for the donation of $486.  He reported that over the years there have been 2,160 dictionaries donated in the San Lorenzo Valley schools.
 
-Mike reported that the RYLA interviews would be next Friday the 19th.  There will be a short meeting for the interviewers after next week’s meeting.  So far there are 3 RYLA candidates.
 
-Mary spoke about the MCR Phone-a-thon.  SLV Rotary and Interact members will be volunteering on Sunday, February 21st from 2-6 PM.  
 
-Karen reported that the SV Trivia Contest on February 27th has been filled and she was unable to register the SLV Rotary team.  Mike will try to get the team registered at the President’s meeting on Friday.
 
-Brenda reported there is a fundraiser for Mt. Parks Foundation at Shadowbrook Restaurant on Tuesday, March 8th.  If you mention Mt. Parks, 1/3 of the meal and drinks cost will be donated to Mt. Parks. 
 
-The SV / SLV Rotary Social will be March 11th at the Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub starting at 6:15 PM.
 
-April 27th the club will be dark but we will have a field trip to Brookdale Lodge starting at noon for a tour by Pravin Patel.
 
-Mary reported that the Sam Farr Roast would be May 6th from 5:30-9 PM at the Aptos Seascape Golf course.   $150 per person.
-Charlie reported that the Polio Plus jar was very full so he took it last week to Bay Federal and had the money counted.  Charlie presented a check to the club for $108.98.
 
-Bill was Detective and asked questions about leading men in the movies.  Followed by Happy Bucks
 
-Brenda Holmes presented her Blue Badge talk about herself to fulfill that requirement.  It was very entertaining, recalling her volunteerism and lessons learned in each decade of her life.
 
-Assembly items:
  • Ken reported that the 3rd Quarter billing has been sent out. 
  • Next week raffle tickets will be purchased with cash at each meeting.
  • Each winner of the raffle will receive $5
  • If the raffle winner is a Rotarian, they will get to pull a card or marble.
  • $1=1 ticket
  • $2=3 tickets
  • $5=10 tickets
 
-Membership
  • Mike reported Brittney Overbeck will be leaving the position as District Administrator to work in Santa Cruz.  Mike encouraged members to reach out to her to invite her to consider joining SLV Rotary.
 
-Janet reported that there might be an opportunity for community service helping in construction for the SLV high school Safe and Sober Celebration.
 
-Karen had the winning raffle ticket and won $5, but didn’t pick the Joker.
 
-Mike adjourned the meeting at 8:30 AM with our motto Service Above Self.
