The speaker today was UCSC Chancellor Cynthia Larive; we also had as guest Kieran Kelly who is Assistant Director, Government & Community Relations for UCSC.  An accomplished bioanalytical chemist, Larive came to UCSC from UC Riverside where she was serving as provost and executive vice chancellor.  She also has led programs for undergraduate research and curricular innovation.  Larive has also been active in encouraging the participation and success of women and others who have been underrepresented in STEM fields.
Larive touched on the UCSC Long Range Development Plan which is available at this URL: https://lrdp.ucsc.edu/ .  She also mentioned that a new economic analysis found that more than 18,000 jobs in the Monterey Bay Area can be linked to UCSC, generating $892 million in labor income.
