Guest Speaker: District Governor, Orrin Mahoney
Orrin Mahoney initially came to California to work for Hewlett Packard. His career at HP lasted 35 years. He is now an active community volunteer serving as both council member and mayor of the City of Cupertino. Governor Orrin became a member of the Rotary of Cupertino since 2000.

Rotary recognizes bringing in new members is both necessary and a challenge. In response, the new Rotary Council has added different kinds of membership and added flexibility for attendance. Governor Orrin inducted two new members to the SLV Rotary Club, Scott and Tammie Webb. We welcomed Rotary’s two newest members in the world by giving them a standing ovation!

Governor Orrin spoke about the true power of Rotary and some of the projects he has been involved in: wheelchairs, Via West, Rotoplast, and Project Snowflake.

District 5170 recently wrote a new mission statement and recognized that the district exists to inspire and support the clubs of the district. He also shared facts about Interact, Camp RYLA, Youth Exchange, and the Speech Contest. The District is also involved in the Annual Fund and Polio drives. The district manages the funds and returns DDF to the clubs. They also provide training on Global Grants.

The theme for this year is Rotary: Making a Difference. Governor Orrin is trying to secure either the Apple Campus or SJSU’s new student union for the District Conference. In honor of Governor Orrin’s great work, we “socked” the governor. The club will donate the socks to MCR in honor of Orrin Mahoney.

Detective: Franziska tested us on Germany history. Judy, Ron, Scott, Karen, Linda, and Orrin must have been reading up on their German Fun Facts last night! Um Himmels willen! *

Drawing: Mary’s ticket was drawn but she did not find that joker! (Better come next week!!)

The meeting was adjourned at 8:38 am

Minutes respectfully submitted by J. Haff
