Today's speaker was Jeff Calden, SLV High School Principle.  Jeff is a native SLV resident, growing up in Boulder Creek.

-Don introduced our guest Joe Hammer and our speaker, Jeff Calden
 
-Janet had an update on the Barrel Wrap scheduled for this Saturday, October 1st
Rotarians who have signed up are Mike, Carol, Charlie, Franziska and her husband Toby, Karen, Heather and Eric.  Janet will send out an email to those who have signed up.
 
-Carol had an announcement asking for volunteers for the Lobster Feed on October 8th.
 
-Mike had a reminder for the club from Karen about Avenues of Service on October 22nd at the Double Tree. 
 
-Mike spoke about the Rotary Foundation 100 year anniversary.  Pledge cards will be handed out next week and the money is due by December 7th to be eligible for the raffle prizes.  Mike talked about the Rotary Foundation receiving a score of 100 on Charity Navigator that is the highest score it awards to charities.  89% of funds The Rotary Foundation receives go directly to programs.
 
-Mary announced the MCR Open House on Oct. 21st.  The cost is $35.
 
-Laurie was detective and challenged us again with SLV history questions.

-As many people forgot their socks, we will Sock the President next week.
 
-Laurie introduced the new SLVHS Principal Jeff Calden.
 
-Jeff is excited about the changes at the high school and he spoke about the new staff and programs at SLVHS with the emphasis on:
  • School safety and protocols
  • Positive school culture
  • College and career
  • Academics
 
-Mary won the raffle and didn’t pull the Joker from the half deck of cards.
