President Karen opened the meeting with the flag salute, introductions and Thought for the Day.
 
Announcements: Our district governor will be here next week. Please bring socks for MCR. Saturday night is Rotary Night at Abbott Square in Santa Cruz. It starts at 5:00 just behind the MAH. The annual San Lorenzo River Clean Up is on Saturday, September 16. October 7 is breakfast and the Barrel Wrap in Watsonville.  Avenue of Service is on Oct. 5. Karen will send around a sign-up sheet next week. The club picks up the registration. This year’s Rotary president is asking that we keep track of our service hours. We will develop a spreadsheet to record this.
 
Guest Speaker: Sibley Simon
Sibley is currently the President of New Way Homes, a non-profit that operates an impact investment fund to spur new workforce and affordable housing development. He co-founded the 180/2020 Initiative in 2012 that has housed over 500 chronic and veteran homeless individuals, is the current Treasurer of the Homeless Services Center, and leads the renovation of the historic Evergreen Cemetery. Sibley shared projects that he is working on and ideas that are being researched here in our county.
