Today's featured guest was Donna Maurillo, the new District 7 Assistant Governor.  She spoke about her involvement with Rotary and then inducted the key officers of our club for 2016/2017.  There was a good group of us at President Karen's home for the debunking of outgoing President Mike.  Mike has been calling for Yo-Yos since he first arrived here in SLV - he got some today.

-Mike rang the bell at 7:30 AM
-Judy led us in the Pledge and the 4 Way Test
-Mary had the Thought for the Day
-Carol introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians

-Mike thanked Karen and everyone for the Debunking Party on July 4th
-Mike introduced Area 7 AG Donna Maurillo who told a little about herself and then inducted Karen as President and President Elect, Mike at VP, and Ken as Treasurer.

-President Karen told us that through the summer we would be having some of our long time members give their 10 – 15 minute bios to benefit those newer members who had never heard their story.

-Karen told about herself today and shared her family history from Cleveland to Cincinnati to San Jose, PA and back to California settling in Scotts Valley.  Married to Butch for 42 years they have 2 sons Mike and Ryan.  Karen is a Docent at Henry Cowell and is very involved with the Mt. Parks Foundation.     
Karen joined Rotary after being invited by Carol and in 2010 Karen was the SLV Rotary President and has graciously accepted to be President for the 2016-2017 and 2017- 2018 terms. 
 
-Karen told us that this year’s Rotary theme is Rotary Serving Humanity

-Karen announced the chairs of committees and presented them with the theme pins.

-Karen said the Board meetings would be monthly on the 1st Wed of the month and the Club Assembly would be on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
 
-Karen asked the club if they would like to stay at Casa Nostra as our permanent Rotary home and all in attendance agreed.  Karen presented a gift to the SLV Rotary club of a beautiful Rotary plaque that reads “The San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club meets here on Wednesday’s at 7:15 AM” and the Casa Nostra staff will be asked to hang in the restaurant permanently.
 
- Karen handed out theme pins and Rotary pens to the rest of the club members and announced that Heather will be the parade queen for next year’s parades.  There was a discussion about the possible roles for SLV Rotary for next year’s parades either as an entrant or volunteer or possibly both. 
 
-Janet thanked the SLV Rotary members who helped with the July 4th parade on behalf of the BCBA.
 
-Bill was detective and challenged us with Santa Cruz County history.
 
-Happy Bucks
 
-Charlie’s raffle number was the winner for $5 but he didn’t pull the Joker.
 
-Don spoke about the RYLA BBQ.  One of the delegates left early because she wasn’t enjoying the experience.  There was a discussion of some ideas on choosing delegates in the future.
 
-Karen announced that the Board meeting would be next week, July 13th, just for this month only.
 
-Karen rang the bell with the club saying our motto Service Above Self.
