CCC is a state agency and youth employment program. They hire young people ages 18-25. They have a range of young people from those without high school diplomas to one employee with a master’s degree. Corps members work 40 hours a week, attend classes in the evenings and are required to do volunteer work in the community. They respond to emergencies: fire, flood, shipwrecks, and anchovies in the harbor! Brenda says they like the hard work and tolerate the low pay ($10 per hour). Both build confidence and gives them much needed work experience. Two unique programs include: working in the backcountry for 6 months and the Australian exchange program. Youth commit to one year in the Corps. Brenda says it is a coming of age program gives these people direction for the rest of their lives.

Drawing: Ken says the pot is just north of $1200. Bummer- no joker!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
