This morning the club tried out a new venue with buffet breakfast at the Empire Grill in Felton, with Zoom for those not attending in person.  It seemed to work out well and we'll continue to use it on a trial basis during July & August.  There were three speakers today: Jordan King introduced by Joe Griffin, good friend of the club Brenda Holmes, Mountain Parks Foundation Executive Director and Will Fourt, Senior Project Planner, Reimagining Big Basin.

Jordan King & Joe Griffin

Joe introduced Jordan King who is the club's second 4-year scholarship student.  Jordan is entering his sophomore year at UC Davis majoring in mechanical engineering. Joe and Linda Fawcett initiated and support this 4-year scholarship using the club as the vehicle for conveying the yearly funds.  Here is Jordan with Joe.

Guest Brenda Holmes

Brenda Holmes, Mountain Parks Foundation is on the Advisory Committee for the Reimagining Big Basin Project, one of the drivers of the project to begin helping mother nature recover from the CZU complex fire that burned over 97% of the oldest state park in California.  Brenda related some of her experiences and knowledge of Big Basin and then introduced Will Fourt, Senior Project Planner for Reimagining Big Basin.  Will presented a video overview of Big Basin and the Project that the Club contributed to producing.

Will Fourt, Reimagining Big Basin

Will Fourt is the California State Parks Senior Project Planner, Reimagining Big Basin Project.  This is a multi-year project to recover the oldest state park in California after the devastating CZU Complex fire, August 2020.
The Reimagining Big Basin project will engage the public and stakeholders in defining a renewed vision for Big Basin. Although the Big Basin General Plan was updated in 2013 and defines a vision for the park based on significant stakeholder and public input, the devastation caused by the CZU Complex Fire in 2020 has prompted the need to revisit this shared vision with consideration to resources and infrastructure conditions as well as to the changing climatic conditions.
