Members in attendance: Don, Janet, Linda, Joe, Julie, Mary, Cameron, Heather, Mike, Charles, Ken, Karen, Carol, and Bill. Guests: Charles Woods and Zach – a representative from Mt. Hermon.
Guest Speaker: Lynn Robinson, Executive Director of Valley Churches United
President Mike opened the meeting with the flag salute, introductions and Thought for the Day.
Announcements: Felton Remembers Parade is on May 28. Please bring a bag of candy and meet at the lumberyard at 8:00am. Interact club had its last meeting and celebrated 182.5 volunteer hours in the community, 16 Interact pins and five Interact sashes. Meet at Felton Fair parking lot at 11:00 to volunteer at the Food Drive down in Watsonville on Wed., May 25. Ken reported that the time slots are filling up for the Redwood Mt Faire. Call Ken if you are still available to help!
Detective: Karen quizzed us on American Trivia (Answers included: American Ivy, Amerigo Vespucci, American Legion).
Happy Bucks: Don’s son is off to Spain to study art this summer.
Guest Speaker: Lynn Robinson Executive Director of Valley Churches United (VCU). Lynn was previously the Mayor of Santa Cruz and served on the Santa Cruz City Council for 8 years. She is also a small business owner – Lynn Robinson Designs – a landscaping business. Lynn started with VCU in November. VCU serves residents living in SLV, SV and Bonny Doon and receives no government funding. VCU primarily operates a food pantry and tries to connect their clients to other resources. Last year VCU gave out 10,000 bags of food and serves 300 clients each month. While VCU cannot solve every problem for each of its clients, they can provide one time support for rent, utilities and other individual needs clients may have. Other important dates: VCU will be dedicating their building in memory of Annette Marcum on June 11; The Tasting of the Redwoods is being held on August 14; and Bucks for Hunger is an ongoing mail-in fundraiser.
