President Mike opened the meeting with the flag salute, introductions and Thought for the Day. Charlie led us in a celebratory song for Cameron’s 10 year anniversary.
Announcements: Sunday is clean-up day at the Felton Community Center; next week is dark and everyone is invited to the District Conference; Sam Farr’s retirement event is May 6 at 5:30pm. Mike, Janet and Mary are planning on attending and welcome others; we received 5 scholarship applications and the committee will meet on May 11 at 8:30; Redwood Mt. Fair is the first week of June. Ken will have sign-ups next month.
Detective: Karen with general trivia—she dummied the questions down for us this week. The club did a fine job with 100% correct— we didn’t count President Mike’s.
Happy Bucks: Lots of happy people including Mary who had a positive report from her doctor.
Guest Speaker: Scott Weber was formerly a member of the SLV Rotary Club (1994-2000) and Director of Camp Campbell. Today, he is the director of Easter Seal’s Camp Harmon in Boulder Creek. Easter Seals was founded in 1922 – A Society For Crippled Children-- and Paul Harris was one of the founding fathers.
Camp Harmon is over 50 years old and has 14 cabins that are all fully accessible. Campers range from 8-64 years old and serves people with special needs in 10 counties. Scott and his crew are focused on renovating the facilities including the trails that need to support 45 wheelchairs in a week. Rotarians have been very involved in the renovation including rebuilding the fire circle and pillbox. President Mike asked if there might be a project our club could help on. Scott said yes and invited us to an Open House on May 1.
Drawing: There is a pot of $906. Scott picked Steve’s ticket and he drew a spade!
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
