This was our monthly club assembly meeting.
SLV Rotary
Club Assembly
3-9-16
-Mike rang the bell at 7:31 AM
-Don led us in the Pledge and 4 Way Test
-Carol had the Thought for the Day
-We had no visiting Rotarians or guests
-Charlie led us in a Birthday song for Karen
-Heather helped Mike with the Perfect Attendance Awards
Announcements:
-Brenda reported many people attended the Mt. Parks fundraiser at Shadowbrook
restaurant last night.
-Janet gave a reminder about the METRO meeting Public forum on Thursday night
from 6-8 PM at the IOOF in Boulder Creek regarding possible reduction of bus
service in the Valley.
-Mike reminded the group about the SV – SLV Mixer at BC Pizza & Pub on Friday at
6:15 PM. All are encouraged to attend.
-Charlie reminded the group about the Santa Cruz Warrior game on Sunday, March
13th. All extra tickets have been turned back in but if anyone else would like to
attend, tickets can be purchased at the door. T-shirts will be handed out at the
game. The group will be meeting at the Safeway at Felton Faire at 5 PM on Sunday
to meet and provide transportation to the Interact members who will be attending.
-Karen reported on the upcoming District Assembly. A sign up sheet was passed around to attend the event, and sign ups will also be available next week.
The District Assembly is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, at the India Community Center, 525 Los Coches, in Milpitas. Cost of $45 and is traditionally paid by clubs and includes the training, dinner, and keynote speaker, Frederick Marx. This training program is an excellent opportunity for current leadership, new officers, Red Badgers, and anyone interested in learning more about Rotary. Please note that the deadline for registering for the District Assembly is March 17.
-Karen said that there would also be Lifescan screening available at the event for
Youth Service Certification.
-Janet reminded the group that if they had not completed the first level of the Online
Youth Protection Awareness That they had received an email a with instructions in
how to complete the process. Members are encouraged to complete the online
course.
-Mike announced the Santa Cruz Sunrise Water to Wine Fundraiser date has been
changed to April 17th.
-May 25th will be the Stop Hunger Now event in Watsonville.
-Next week the club will meet in Ben Lomond at the Ben Lomond Bistro. SLV Rotary
will present the donation to Comunidad and Lisa Crivello from Bank of America will
be in attendance.
-Karen will take the lead on a condolence card to be sent from the club for Georgie
Clark from Roaring Camp, who recently passed away.
-Detective Cameron and he challenged us with random trivia.
-Red Badge talks Bill Jurgens and Eric Hammer each gave their red badge talks and
we learned a little more about each of our new members.
-Mike announcements of the Board report:
- Because the club is so busy, it was decided to just set up a Felton Community Center Cleanup prior to the Felton Remembers Parade as a Community Service Project.
- The Carmen Collins donation will be finalized at next week’s meeting and Karen will deliver the club’s donation to Carmen.
- Ken will talk about the Redwood Mountain Faire at the meeting next week. The club will be volunteering with vendor parking from Thursday June 2 – Sunday, June 5th. All members are encouraged to volunteer for multiple shifts or pay the club if unable to volunteer.
- Check in desk duties will be added to the duty roster for the club.
- May 25th Stop Hunger Now event. The Board voted that our club would be dark that day so that club members can attend the 12 PM event in Watsonville. The Board voted for up to a $500 contribution from the club for the event.
-Karen spoke about her experience at PETS this past weekend.
-Happy Bucks
-Mike won the raffle and $5 but didn’t pick the Joker. The pot is almost $800 dollars.
-Mike ended the meeting at 8:32 AM, with our motto, “Service Above Self.”
