The speakers today were Janet Gluch and Jim Zenner from the Rotary Water Warriors.  The group has recently undertaken water purification projects in India, in the area called Shamshabad-Agra.  They use solar powered filtration machines (Sun Spring) that produce pure water from the contaminated water available.  The cost comes to about one-tenth cent per liter which is a tiny fraction of the price that Nestle extracts from the Indians for bottled water.  Jim explained that they have tried and failed to get communities in the US with poor quality water to use this equipment, describing blocks due to bureaucracy and entrenched retail bottled water suppliers.
Janet also participated in polio immunization clinics on the recent trip.
Our club is supporting their efforts with our DDF.
