Our speaker this morning was Dan Walters, Chief of Zayante Fire Department. After 33 years serving in Santa Cruz and Felton fire districts, longtime local resident Dan Walters was persuaded to come out of retirement to oversee the Zayante Fire Protection District. He succeeded outgoing chief John Stipes at the end of July 2021. The Zayante Fire District has a long history going back to its founding in 1942. It encompasses over 5,500 residents and extends from Graham Hill Road to Summit road; three fire stations and a $442,000 annual budget.
