Guest speaker: Peggy Pollard, Clean Water & Economic Development Project in Kasese, Ugnada
Years ago, the residents of Lhuhwahawa discussed issues that were facing their community and decided they needed to send one of their own of to be educated in Germany and the US. The village selected Godfrey Kasozi. Godfrey received part of his education at UCSC. This project is a result of the town’s vision for its future. The project is designed to bring clean water to the Village of Lhuhwahwa in Kasese, Uganda.

There is a strong Rotary presence in Uganda, including the mayor of Kasese who is a past president. Mary has visited the village and Santa Cruz Sunrise is supporting this project by raising $30,000. They believe the project will improve the lives of the 1,100 people living in Lhuhwahwa, and as a pilot, the water project can be replicated in other parts of the region.

Wine Into Water is a fundraiser that will support this project and it will be held at the Tannery on February 11.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 am.
