Maker spaces give students’ choice on how to learn. Three years ago Jason’s district started out by developing a vision for their maker space. They came up with four words-- explore, create, play and collaborate. They developed a plan on how to engage students, teachers and parents. They designed what they wanted for their space and started making a list of what they needed. Jason said they realized they did not do enough training for teachers so they contracted with a teacher to work on lesson planning in this unique setting. The district’s work areas now include: robotics, saws, sewing machines, ipads and lots of consumable materials. Students learn to organize those materials and make products that give back to the community.

Students recently participated in the Cardboard Challenge and built arcade games. Jason also presented President Karen with a three-dimenensial Rotary nametag created by a 12-year student.

Detective: Joe quizzed the members on baseball facts.

Drawing: Lucky Scott left the joker for another day!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 a.m.
