President Karen opened the meeting with the flag salute, introductions and Thought for the Day. President Karen inducted new member, Ed Titus. Welcome Ed!

Announcements:
Dues!! Fundraiser for Make a Wish Foundation – Feb 10 3-6 pm at Heavenly Café. Come and witness the Doc Holliday Revue. Feb 10 Valley Churches; Feb 14 is the speech contest her at our morning meeting; Feb 21 dinner at Linda and Joe’s Potluck w/Americorps; March 6 Area Speech contest SLVHS 3:30-5:30; April 7 Homeless Project; and April 28 Scotts Valley Rotary Lacy J Dalton.
 
 
Guest Speaker: Rachel Bickert, Senator Bill Monning’s office
Senator Monning represents Santa Cruz and San Luis Obisbo County as well as parts of Santa Clara and Monterey Counties. Senate Monning represents 1 million California. There are term limits – 12 years – between Senate and Assembly. Senator Monning will term out of the Senate in 2020.
 
Senator Monning’s priorities include health – including taxing or labeling sweetened drinks (neither bill passed), end of life option act, transportation infrastructure and affordable housing, gas tax 12 cents per gallon, SB 5 Natural Resources and Water – will be on the June ballot. It includes drought, water, parks, climate, coastal protection, and outdoor access for all. Finally, he is working on SB 623 Safe and Affordable Drinking Water.

Detective: Julie quizzed the members on movies from the first 100 years of the film industry. The group did pretty well!
 
Drawing: 734 is Judy’s lucky number. She decided to leave the $280 in the pot.
