Guest speaker: Dorothy Wise, President of the Santa Cruz Symphony
The symphony performs five concerts a year. A local composer is conducting this next concert and it is music inspired by Bonny Doon. They try to do a wide variety of music. They have a youth and family program. Their mission includes educating people about music. They used to have a youth concert and now have a Link Up program. It teaches teachers how to teach students to read music and play the recorder. A culmination activity is to invite students to come to the concert and at the end play their recorder along with the symphony. This program serves over 500 kids. They provide 27 scholarships to music students. There are open rehearsals on the Friday before the concert. These are free as are the concert talks before the concert. Ticket costs cover only 45% of the cost of the symphony. Daniel (Danny) Stewart is the music conductor of the Santa Cruz Symphony.
Detective: Karen kept us awake with crazy questions. Answers included: milk, Bette White, Greek goats, Oman, and goofy foot. Fun!
Drawing: Joe does it again but doesn’t find the joker.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:33 a.m.
