February 17 Meeting

Janet introduced out speakers, Ruben Garcia and Jose Hernandez from Monarch Services.  They had an interesting program telling us the services Monarch provides which include domestic violence crisis intervention with children and youth support groups, a sexual assault response team and human trafficking information. Most services are confidential unless a child is involved.  They work closely with the police and nursing staffs with sexual assault cases.  There are 2 offices, one in Watsonville and one in Santa Cruz and have support groups in English and Spanish.  They are the only agency in Santa Cruz County that provides services to women, children, youth and men.  They have a 24-hour crisis line and have a confidential shelter for women and children and will provide hotel vouchers for men.  They have volunteer training for outreach and an intensive training for crisis line volunteers.
