Our DDF Funded International Project

Michael works as an educator and a public health advocate in the U.S. and in Guatemala. With co-workers in Guatemala, he co-founded Voces y Manos in 2009 to promote youth leadership and expand access to education for Maya youth. At Voces y Manos he has been working to develop youth participatory action research curriculum building on indigenous frameworks. He is currently a PhD Student at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education where he studies youth learning as they participate in activism. He has published editorials in the Sacramento Bee and Truthout.
