Judy led the Pledge of Allegiance, Carol stated the thought of the day, Charlie introduced our guests for today: Steve Lanctot, Doris Splettstoesser, Mike Bethke and speaker Laurie Bruton. Both Steve and Doris are considering joining the SLV Rotary Club, we hope they do..

- Ken announced continued signups for the upcoming Avenues of Service, see details on our website.
- Karen is accepting signup applications for the Percy and Thomas Halloween Party fundraiser at Roaring Camp.
- Ken announced that our own Area 7 had no host as of now for the annual speech contest. No clubs had stepped forward to do this. Mike doesn’t want it to fall by the wayside, so he said he would talk with AG Cheryl to see if something can’t be done; Mike is quite experienced in managing Rotary Speech Contests.

Today’s speaker, Laurie Bruton is the new SLV USD Superintendent. She outlined her major initiatives coming into the job: the Common Core curriculum mandate, Technology in the classroom and subject matter, and the Importance of College and Career Preparation for the students.
