Ken called the meeting to order. Heather led the Pledge of Allegiance, Carol stated the thought of the day, Charlie introduced our guest for today: speaker Jacob Martinez. Charlie also remembered Roger Williams to the group, CEO of Mount Hermon and past president of the club, he passed away over the weekend.
7:35am Announcements & Club Business
- Ken announced the upcoming ad in the SC Sentinel; the Facebook opportunity (Thomas and Julie took up the challenge – THANKS!); the September and October calendars; and last call for Second Harvest barrel wrap sign-ups.
- Janet noted the SLV High Interact Club had its first meeting with 28 attendees, maybe a record!
- Karen is taking sign-ups for the October Percy and Thomas Halloween Party fundraiser
- Mary announced this year’s MCR major fundraiser Mountain Affair, October 17

Don yielded Detective duty to Thomas so he could fulfill one of his last Blue Badge requirements. Thanks for the good questions Thomas on the origins and history of Rotary.

Today’s speaker, Jacob Martinez, Founder and CEO of Digital Nest. The Digital NEST is a high-tech space located in the heart of Watsonville where young people ages 12-24 have access to computers, software, Wi-Fi, and other digital tools and classes. They master skills necessary to thrive in the high tech, globally connected world in which we all live. Jacob has spoken at other Rotary Clubs in Area 7 and we hope to recruit him into one of the Area Clubs.
