SLV Rotary Meeting

Attendance: Karen, Carole, Linda, Mike, Ken Don, Charlie, Laurie, Steve, Heather, Joe, and Julie
 
Rotary Education: Today’s topic was Women In Rotary. Duarte Rotary Club admitted three women into their club in 1978. The decision went through both the California and US Supreme Court and The Rotary Constitutional change to allow women in Rotary was made in 1989.
 
Opening: Flag and Thought for the Day
 
Detective: Don 5 minutes – Don shared the President of Rotary’s message on membership and asked a variety of questions.
 
Announcements: SLVUSD Music in the Mountains on Sunday, Sept. 12; Carol announced that there will be a celebration in Roger’s honor on Sept. 19 at Big Basin State Park; Carol also shared that Judy’s daughter is still in the hospital and hoping to be moved back to Dominican Hospital.
 
Speaker: Justin Atkin, President of Boulder Creek Business Association. Justin is a graduate of SLV high school and owns and operates a restaurant in BC. Justin says there is a spectrum of businesses and personalities involved in the association. Some of their accomplishments include: getting the message out to shop locally, sponsoring local events (Trick or Treating, 4th of July Parade, tree lighting, etc.), growing membership to 90, and helping to get lights installed in the downtown area. They have also worked with Cal Trans and Supervisor McPherson on several issues. Next meeting September 2 at IOOF building.
