12:05    Ken Called the meeting to order, Don led the Pledge of allegiance, Mike delivered the thought of the day and Don introduced our guests:

  • Priscilla Weiss, long-time former member, President, Secretary; she did it all
  • Dr Laurie Bruton, newly announced Superintendent of the SLV School District

  • Brian Compagna talked about his organization http://www.education-first.com/
  • Mike Bethky is getting a fund-raising project going called “Flip This House For Kids”, Renovating a large estate in the Scotts Valley area to sell as a meeting/seminar facility
  • Ken announced the Project Pajamas being championed by Superior Court Judge Ari Symonds
 
12:30    Detective Report & Happy Bucks: Heather, hilarity ensured as we did our best with A’s trivia, Dodger-fan Ken got one of the questions right costing him a few bucks; what other cities had the A’s called home in the past?

  • Mike presented the proposed budget to the group and it was passed unanimously, it calls for a dues increase of $50 per year
  • Ken announced that he was beginning the transition of our web site to ClubRunner to take advantage of more stable tools, consistent look with the other clubs in the Area and District and better integration with the overall Rotary organization
  • Ken proposed that the money raised by all the fines be used in purchasing school supplies for this year’s presidents project; we’ll buy a large quantity of small 8x12 white boards asked for by the teachers in SLV Schools
  • Carol announced that the time was now to make your annual contribution to the Rotary Foundation.  All members are encouraged to give or pledge as soon as possible.  Raffle tickets will be fewer this year, 1 ticket for $100 contribution, 2 for $500 for example.
  • The annual new teacher breakfast will be Tuesday, August 19, 8am at the SLV School District Office in Ben Lomond.  This event is being spearheaded by Karen McNamara, she will be letting us know what is needed for the Pot Luck Breakfast.
  • The annual RYLA picnic will be August 7 at Mission Springs in Scotts Valley, all are welcome.
