  • Gil made a very appreciated appearance today at the meeting.
  • The Scholarship Committee met today right after the meeting and selected 3 scholarship recipients to be announced at the SLV High School awards ceremony later this month
  • Our club Board also met right after the regular meeting, the items discussed and decided there will be the main topics of next week’s club assembly meeting
  • Julie announced starting the Coins for Nepal drive with the SLV schools for donations to the victims of the recent earthquake.  More information is on our website home page; and more information coming next week.
  • Perfect attendance for April: Don, Julie, Mary, Mike, Steve, Ken & Carol
  • Rotarian of the Month for April: Ken recognized Judy Anderson for her long-time commitment to the club and Rotary ideals.  She is a distinguished and very active business person in the community and is very much appreciated within the club.  She is our go to person for Rotacare donations!
  • We’ve heard that the Welcome to Felton sign is done and ready to mount our Rotary wheel.  Steve has passed on the Rotary sign to the Eagle scout whose project this is!
  • Janet announced the hydrant painting project is complete!  Thanks to all who contributed to that community service project over the past several months.

  • The 5 Gyres Project – Plastics in the World Oceans.  Patrizia Materassi is Owner and Principal at Sustainable Development and Planning.  She is the current chair of the Sustainability Committee of the Scotts Valley Rotary Club.  She is educating audiences locally on the effects of plastic pollution on our oceans and the importance of sustainable design change as a solution.  The world’s oceans are now burdened with over 270,000 tons of plastic discarded by the human population of the planet.  This is a big part of the overall poisoning of the very food chain that we depend on!  Learn more about the 5 gyres project at www.5gyres.org.
