Today’s guests: Speakers Ron Sekkel & John Fisher.  Rotaractors outgoing president Judith Alvarez, incoming president Kate Froelich and Kevin Lopez.
7:35am            Announcements and other Club Business
  • Proceeds to the club from Rotary Night at the Warriors.  Ken announced that the club’s proceeds from this event was $183.  Also $30 from sale of the license plate frames.
  • Ron Sekkel announced that the Scotts Valley Rotary book club has invited anyone from our club to participate.  They meet the first Thursday of the month at 6pm in the conference room at the rear of the office building at 6630 Highway 9 in Felton.  Ron says “just drop in”.
  • Felton Community Hall and MCR cleanup this weekend
  • Scholarship Committee meets today right after the meeting.  Due to not having the applications here this was postponed.
  • Parades preparation update
  • Janet announced that the Fire Hydrant painting project is about over, needing just one more weekend to complete.
  • Rotaract Update, Judith and Kate gave a short slide presentation on the past year of the UCSC Rotaract Club.  This is a very active chapter with a nice increase in membership this year currently at 27 with 24 as the average meeting attendance.  The club led or participated more than 12 events or trips as a group last year.

7:55am            Program – Speaker Ron Sekkel & John Fisher
  • Ron Sekkel and John Fisher, both PDG updated the club on Rotacare in Santa Cruz County.  Ron is the current site administrator for the clinic at Senior Center at 17th and Capitola Rd; they hold the clinic every Tuesday starting at 7:30.  The staff is all volunteer doctors and nurses with a few student volunteers for experience.  The clinic was founded in 1995 by John Fisher and the organization has grown to 12 clinics now throughout the SF Bay Area.  John founded the first Rotacare clinic in Santa Clara Country in 1989; the clinics in the Bay Area now see about 28,000 patients per year, in Santa Cruz the total is about 620.
