7:55am Program – SLV High School 1-1 Device Initiative
- Our speakers today were Debi Bodenheimer, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Systems; Christopher Schiermeyer, Chief Business Officer; and Jeff Kitts, Director of Technology. The goal of the 1-1 Initiative is for each student to have a computer or close access to one. Surveys have shown that 93% of the SLV households are in favor of this and that 94% have internet access at home. This project has done quite a lot of research and has come to the recommendation of Chromebooks as the price/performance leader; for about $200 - $250 a student can have full access and computer power needed to be successful in the schools, especially SLV High. There are other lower cost possibilities for the lower grade, but the High School is the primary focus. There have been contributions from several community groups (Valley Women’s Club, for example), and the group is exploring other funding sources for the expected $100,000 needed for the complete rollout. An excellent presentation well received by our club.
