- Thomas went over his plans for community projects coming this spring: Felton Community Hall landscape cleanup, possibly some improvements to our welcome to Rotary signs around the valley and a field trip to Digital Nest in Watsonville. Piggybacking on the Felton Community hall work is the possibility of doing a cleanup project at MCR across the street. Janet also announced an MCR program for socks for the homeless.
- Ken announced two votes from the recent Board meeting. For next year, we’ll work to move the 4th grade dictionary distribution to earlier in the fall rather than spring. Julie reviewed the decision to specify two conditions for our Rotary scholarship: the recipient is obliged to attend an accredited 2 or 4-year college, university or vocational school in the year immediately following the receipt of the scholarship; and SLV High is responsible for the verification of the students’ enrollment. The full text of the revised scholarship requirements is filed under the Home Page Download Files links on the home page of our web site.
- The Area 7 speech contest is coming March 2, 6pm, Scotts Valley Library and Mike has recruited some high-profile individuals (non-Rotarians) in the Valley as judges: Jeff Almquist - Former Supervisor, Current Superior Court Judge; Aaron Bagchee – Toastmasters; Jim Hart - Santa Cruz County Sheriff; Brenda Holmes - Mountain Parks Foundation Executive Director; Fred Keeley - Former Supervisor, former State Assemblyman, Santa Cruz County Treasurer. And Karen has invited our club attendees to her house afterward for a visit.
- The issue of our summertime venue is coming. We’re considering Heavenly Café, Firehouse halls, Felton Community Hall and the Senior Center at Highlands Park.
