- Ken called the meeting to order, Joe led the Pledge of Allegiance, .Ken had the thought of the day from Isaac Asimov, Mary Hammer introduced today’s guests Steve Lanctot, and UCSC Rotaract Club members Jessie Case, Judith Alvarez, Justin Blaich and Bradley Coleman.
7:35am Announcements & Club Business
- Ken recognized October perfect attendees: Don, Janet, Joe, Heather, Mike, Karen, Carol (and me!).
- I also recognized October Rotarian of the Month Joe Griffin for his “above and beyond” service in hosting our Partner-in-Service last month. He and Linda not only provided their home for him to stay in, but Joe loaned him money for shopping and drove him around town and down to Gilroy to shop at the outlet mall.
- The UCSC Rotaract co-presidents Jessie and Judith talked to the group about the activities of their club. They are now up to 25 members; major projects include Santa Cruz Homeless and partnering with Santa Cruz Rotary in career guidance, mentoring and job shadowing. Here is a photo of Jessie and Judith.

Today’s speaker is Bill Rush who updated the group on recent goings-on with the Communidad para Baja California. This project was founded in Los Gatos several years ago providing medical, dental assistance to native Indian tribes in extreme northern Mexico. They also provide scholarships for middle and high school students and university students. Bill is a pilot for the program and their next trip is set for March 2015. This club is exploring joining the Silicon Valley and Auburn clubs in supporting Communidad with DDF. Here is Bill:
