  • Ken called the meeting to order. Charlie led the Pledge of Allegiance, Carol stated the thought of the day, Joe introduced our guests for today: Mike Bethke & Steve Lanctot  .
7:35am Announcements & Club Business
  • Janet announced the next Boulder Creek Fire hydrant training sessions, the Interact club is picking this up again as the school year gets into gear.  She also noted that the SLV Interact Club has accumulated 73 hours of volunteer time so far this school year.
  • Karen accepted the job of acting Sargeant-at-Arms while Gil is out for a few meetings, she will help finish preparing the Birch Room for our meeting as well as host the pre-meeting “Koffee Klatch”.  Thanks Karen.
  • Mary renewed her request for spare Rotarian magazines to be collected and then be distributed to various waiting rooms around the valley – doctors, dentists, auto repair, … .  Heather volunteered to prepare some stick-on labels with the Club’s contact information.
  • Charlie had contacted Mount Hermon about using the Loading Zone for parking and we now have the ability to use that area again, since we are usually gone before 9am.  Please don’t block the pedestrian walk though.
  • Ken reviewed a couple of the items that were Board meeting topics last week: Mike is making progress on the By-Laws Revision; he also gave the Treasurer Report with income and expenses on track; Ken placed the order for the School Supplies Project White Boards and will ask for reimbursement from the Club.

  • Today we had the pleasure of welcoming our newest member, swearing-in Dr Laurie Bruton.  Ken did the honors and presented Laurie with two Rotary Plaques, her Red Badge and Rotary Lapel Pin.  Then Laurie consented to give her autobiographical presentation, one of the major Blue Badge requirements.  She is from Fontana in Southern California, where she and her sisters were all competitive runners throughout their school years.  Her children are runners too.  She has been in education for 3 decades, most of those years at Bear Valley Unified School District serving as teacher, principal at two schools and finally as assistant superintendent.  Dr Bruton also served as an assistant superintendent for the Whittier City School District in Southern California.
