- Ken called the meeting to order. Charlie led the Pledge of Allegiance, Carol stated the thought of the day, Joe introduced our guests for today: Doris Splettstoesser, and speaker Karen Asherah.
7:35am Announcements & Club Business
- Ken announced continued signups for the upcoming Avenues of Service, see details on our website.
- Karen is accepting signup applications for the Percy and Thomas Halloween Party fundraiser at Roaring Camp.
- The September perfect attendees are Don, Janet, Gil, Mary, Mike, Charlie, Karen, Carol and Thomas. Congratulations, Ken had a Rotary apple for each.
- Ken recognized Heather as Rotarian of the Month for September. She made an excellent submittal of Club news to the Press-Banner Club roundup; she was a heroine of the Day Out with Thomas fundraiser and pulled together the White Boards for the SLV schools project.
- Janet announced the next Boulder Creek Fire hydrant training sessions, the Interact club is picking this up again as the school year gets into gear.

- On too-short notice for Linda, Heather performed Detective Report duties focusing on the origin of the “high 5” greeting. Turns out this widespread salute in use everywhere today originated at the Oct 2, 1977 last game of the season at Dodger Stadium. The great Dusty Baker hit his 30th home run of the season, making the Dodgers the first team in history to have four hitters with at least 30 home runs in a single season, he and Glenn Burke exchanged the first high 5. Thanks Heather.

- Today’s speaker is Karen Asherah, photography artist. Karen works full-time as a social worker, but her passion is photography, especially of horses and other animals. She will be exhibiting for the upcoming Open Studios in October in Santa Cruz County at her studio in Ben Lomond. For more information: www.karenasherah.com.
