Guest Speaker: John Laurent, Simply CPR
Of the 300 CPR calls John went on as a firefighter, only 12 people survived. Cardiac arrest is when the connections from your brain to your heart stops. Your heart is a muscle and when you give CPR you restart that pump. You have about 3 minutes to get oxygen back to the brain. Calls to 911 usually takes 2-3 minutes, dispatch questions take 1 minute, 1 minute to dispatch engine, and 4 minutes or more to drive to the site. Seattle has the highest success rate of saving lives. Thirty years ago Seattle started mass CPR trainings in the city, including training all 8th graders. Dominican recently provided every high school and middle school with a AED.
