Speaking with us today about Community Television of Santa Cruz County is Kathy Bisbee. She works simultaneously at Community Media Access Partnership in Gilroy and Community Television of Santa Cruz County. At CTV of Santa Cruz County Kathy has developed an efficient business plan on a reduced budget while striving to produce relevant broadcast content. After the Winter Holiday Season, CTV will be limiting its services to the public while undergoing restructuring.  CTV programming and channels will be unaffected. In 22 states around the country, traditional public, educational and government access media centers have lost their funding due to state legislation initiated by the cable companies. California is one of these states. Over 50 media centers in CA closed their doors in 2010. Community Television in Santa Cruz County is one of the media centers affected by this legislation and could lose all of its traditional funding within the next year. Most media centers do not have experience raising funds in any other manner, and are 100% dependent on these traditional sources of operating dollars. CTV is a valuable community asset in Santa Cruz County, reaching over 75,000 viewers, airs thousands of hours of local government in order to keep our democracy transparent, and provides training and mentorship for hundreds of local residents. In order to assure that CTV will continue to operate, the organization must meet requirements set forth by the County of Santa Cruz. The only way Community TV will survive is through the community supporting this station, and through streamlined operations.
