The Reach a Child program provides 10-12 children’s books to police officers and first responders in a red backpack for them to give to children whom they are first to come in contact with at the scene of an accident, fire, domestic disturbance or in other traumatic situations.  The program was started by Paul Gilbertson, a member of the  Waunakee Rotary club after viewing children’s drawings at the 9/11 site in New York City.  The organization became a non profit in 2007 and have since distributed 250,000 books in 10 or 12 states.

Our thanks to Paul Gilbertson for his wonderful work and for his presentation to the club.
