Chief of Police

John Seto

seto_Small.jpgOn July 16, 2012, Ann Arbor City Council appointed John Seto Safety Services Area Administrator and Chief of Police. For three months prior, Chief Seto served in this position on an interim basis.
 
Chief Seto was hired by the City of Ann Arbor as a patrol officer in 1990. He was promoted to sergeant in 2000 and again to lieutenant in 2004. He was appointed Deputy Chief, Operations Division, in 2008. His law enforcement experience includes assignments in the patrol and detective sections. He served on the AAPD SWAT Team and was the commander of the unit for seven years.
 
Chief Seto has a bachelor’s of science degree from Eastern Michigan University. He has continued his education and professional development at EMU where he attended the School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and holds Firefighter I and II certifications.
 
As the Chief of Police, he is responsible for the administrative operation, supervision and leadership of Police Services and Emergency Management.
