Andy Labarre Biography

Andy LaBarre is proud to represent the people of the Seventh District, located in the eastern half
of the City of Ann Arbor, on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners. Now in his
second term, Andy was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2012 and re-elected in
2014. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board’s Ways and Means Committee.

For the last three years Commissioner LaBarre has worked hard to represent his constituents and
fought to protect human services, enhance environmental health and access, and advanced efforts
to make Washtenaw County a better place for its residents and a more welcoming location for
others.

Commissioner LaBarre has been a leader on the efforts to repurpose the Platt Road site, protect
mental health services for Washtenaw residents, and ensuring the Washtenaw County’s
workforce remains strong by responding to the onerous so called “right-to-work” legislation with
long-term, stable, and affordable employee contracts. He is running for re-election because there
is more work to do on these and other issues, to ensure Washtenaw County remains a vibrant
community with a commitment to services for its residents.

Andy lives in Ann Arbor with his wife Megan (a special education teacher at Dexter High
School), son Declan, daughter Delaney, and unemployed dogs, Yogi and Monster. Born in Ann
Arbor, Andy is a lifelong Washtenaw resident and a Pioneer High School graduate. He earned
his B.A. in Religion and Political Science from Wittenberg University and his Masters of Public
Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Andy works as Executive Vice President of the A2Y Regional Chamber and previously served
on staff of U.S. Senator Carl Levin (2004) and Congressman John D. Dingell from 2005-2011.

His past public service includes work on various boards and committees, including:

● 15th Congressional District Democratic Organization Executive Board
● Ann Arbor Housing Commission;
● Area Agency on Aging 1-B;● Center for Occupational and Personalized Education (C.O.P.E.), Advisory Board;
