Dan Lock is the Head Coach of the River Otters Swim Club. He assumed his position with the Club in August 2025, after serving 2.5 seasons as the Assistant Coach. Originally from the UK, Dan first moved to Toronto and then like many others during the pandemic, he left the big urban center and relocated to Brockville in December 2021. This relocation also brought about a change in vocation, as Dan left a career in graphic design and training development to pursue swim teaching and coaching.
Dan informed the members present that the Upper Canada River Otters Swim Club has been around for over 40 years. It is a non-profit organization partnered with the YMCA of Eastern Ontario. The Club strives to provide an inclusive welcoming environment for all participants. Don explained a swimmer's normal development hierarchy that is used to guide club members with some swimmers moving into increasingly more competitive development. Training is tapered to the swimmer's age and physical and mental status.
Dan noted that the Swim Club membership has been growing and now has approximately 95 members locally. They also hold Special Events throughout the year, including Christmas and other social gatherings and fundraisers. To learn more about the Club go to their web site at www.riverotters.ca.
