5.15.13 Weekly Meeting

I am really excited about the meeting this week! First, it’s at the Palace Restaurant. Second, our speaker is Jack Helfrich of the Lehigh Wheelman Association. When I first saw that, I thought he was going to talk to us about wheel barrows and I was planning on skipping out but then I found out he was going to talk about BIKING which I LOVE so I will definitely be there. Plus, the food will be terrific AND there will be a 50/50

Did you know if you bike for an hour, you earn an extra 9 points in Weight Watchers? I hate Weight Watchers.

AWARDS!!!

You know how I was so excited because we qualified for the Presidential Citation Award this year because we are such an AWESOME CLUB???

So there I was, reading the new KILT, which you can now read on the web (right Jeff?) and they published all the awards and there was the Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary listed under 2 MORE AWARDS!!!:

District 7430 Governors Award

Now, I don’t know about you, but I have no idea what those are. I googled them and nothing came up, so I am hoping that Bill Jahn is at the meeting this week and maybe he can enlighten us and explain to us in what other ways we are such a SUPER INCREDIBLE AWESOME CLUB!!!!!! 

Hogar Crea- Finally!

Is this weekend and the forecast is for SUNSHINE and perfect TEMPS! I will bring the donuts and the diet coke! ‘Cause, they both start with “D”  I don’t drink coffee or own a coffee pot (and it starts with a “C”). The fun starts at 8 am.

District Assembly

There were 8 Morning Star Rotarians (including 2 new members!) at the District Assembly this weekend. That is, like 14% or so of the club. That is incredible! Frank Romano gave an excellent kick off speech and because there were so many of us, we were able to cover all the break out talks. I learned that they cannot possibly make the grant process any more complicated.  But they do keep trying. If you want to find out what else happened talk to Jean, Tom, Marianne, Bill (who waved a lot of fish), Alex, Iryna, or Ben.

Speaking of Grants…

If you missed the meeting last week, you missed the great news that the Yardley Peruvian Water project was accepted. We are partnering with them to the tune of $2,000.  There are a total of 5 clubs participating in this project and this is a DDF which will be matched 100%. The total somehow comes out to $39,550 (see my note above), which is a lot of water purification systems. I think DDF stands for District Designated Funds.

One thing I learned at the DA is that our chance of getting our grants accepted, increase significantly with full club participation in EREY. That is Clubs that support the Foundation, get support back from the Foundation – which makes sense. So make sure you get your donations in by the end of the Rotary year.

Golf! We still need golfers, sponsors, raffle prizes

5K/10K! Jeff is still looking for someone to take over the food and I think Stan, who has very kindly agreed to take over as Sponsorship Coordinator, needs help with the raffle. It’s not that hard. You just have to walk up and down Main and Broad and ask the shop keepers, the raffle prizes practically fall in your lap. You walk in the door with your Rotary hat and they just throw the prizes at you.

OK, I think that is enough for one week. This blog isn’t as long as it looks; I just decided to use a bigger font because last week’s looked hard to read.
