PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Fellow Rotarians,

As we launch into a very cold Spring, we have numerous opportunities to make a difference. Last week, we had the Four Way Speech Contest along with the Bethlehem Club at Moravian Village. This Thursday, Jennifer Cunningham will share information about the event and tell us about the winner at our meeting. The District finals will be at our District Conference.

On Thursday, April 4th, we have our First Thursday "Happy Hour" Social Meeting at the Artisan. If you have friends or acquaintances who would like to learn more about Rotary, please invite them to this get together.  Watch for other opportunities to help with the Monocacy Creek clean-up, the District Conference and Spaghetti Dinner.  Try to get involved where you can!

Betty Isaacs, President
MORNING STAR AT RLI

Together, we learn! This past Saturday, March 23, 2024, members from our club participated in the Rotary Leadership Institute, which aims to provide quality learning in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills. These skills are invaluable, benefiting members in both their volunteer endeavors within the Rotary community and their professional lives. Additionally, some of our members had the opportunity to serve as facilitators during the sessions.
REDUCING PLASTIC

At our March 22, 2024 meeting, a team of students from the Creative Inquiry program at Lehigh University shared how they are developing their "PlasTech" System to reduce plastic waste in the Philippines (the 3rd largest plastic polluter in the world).  Thanks to the Green Team for introducing us to this fascinating group of smart and ambitious problem solvers!  Click Here to view their presentation.

NEXT WEEK'S MEETING
FOUR-WAY SPEECH CONTEST
This year, the Bethlehem Downtown Rotary Club and Morning Star collaborated and co-sponsored the club-level "4-Way Test Speech Contest".  Several members of MSR attended the luncheon on March 20th at Moravian Village and heard three (3) extraordinary BAVTS (Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School) students deliver speeches.  Big thanks to Susan Burnett for judging and Sheila Seifert for tallying the votes. The winner, Olivia Stoneback, will compete on April 6th in the regional contest, and hopefully make it to the District Finals April 27th at the District Conference!

MONOCACY CREEK CLEAN-UP

Our Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary Club, in partnership with the Monocacy Creek Watershed Association of Bethlehem, is once again organizing a stream clean-up for one of the ‘jewels’ of Bethlehem - the historic Monocacy Creek.

This year’s clean-up will be on Saturday April 13, and will again start at the Burnside Plantation.  The key details are as follows:

Where - Burnside Plantation
When - Saturday, April 13, 2024
Time - 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Parking - At Burnside Plantation and Moravian College's Sports Medicine building adjacent to Burnside

We will work downstream, and if enough folks come out we will also work upstream towards Illick’s Mill.
