Bethlehem Morning Star Rotarians,
I write you the day after the deadly shooting in Butler PA. The attack on any past or present leader, or someone aspiring to public office can only be condemned no matter your party affiliation or political views. Here in Rotary, we are called to be agents of peace in a divided and conflicted world. We are called to seek peaceful ways to heal a broken world through our mission and actions.
On Thursday, I spoke of the mission and action plans of Bethlehem Morning Star for the coming Rotary year. For those who joined us, I thank you for your support for the upcoming Rotary year. I know a few of you who normally are there couldn’t make it, and we missed you. Our size as a club puts us in a good position to do the things we want to do. As I mentioned, we seem to already have a focus in the areas of literacy/education, community and economic development, and environmental issues both locally and globally.
While we are doing great things, I will seek to engage more with Community Action Lehigh Valley (CACLV). Their mission statement clearly says that they work “to improve the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley…by building communities”. We can tap into their knowledge in areas that align with our passions in our community.
Within and beyond CACLV, we have connections within our community. I will be sending out a short email asking each of you to identify yourself or anyone who you know on boards or organizations doing similar things that Rotary does. Networking and receiving information from these groups only builds our knowledge of our community.
