We had a wonderful turnout for our First Thursday “Happy Hour” Social last week at The Clubhouse Grille with approximately nineteen members, family, and a guest attending. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Please be sure to attend our weekly live/hybrid meeting this Thursday at Seven Sirens Brewing Company (Ground Floor – Flatiron Building). We will present our $10,000 Grant Check to Scott Slingerland, Executive Director of CAT (Coalition for Appropriate Transportation) and learn about the splendid work they do, particularly with 200 Holiday Bikes.
The most exciting "Get Ready for the Holidays" will be at our Holiday Meeting on December 21st at the Advent Moravian Church on Jacksonville Road. Come help celebrate with the Liberty High School A Cappella Choir. We end our holiday celebrations with our Holiday Party on January 6th.
Looking forward to seeing all of you this Thursday!
Please let President Betty know if you will be attending so we can have an accurate count when we order food. Also, inform Betty if you are willing to sponsor breakfast for one of our choral singers or sign-up at this Thursday's meeting. This meeting will really get us in the mood for the holidays.
The Morning Star Rotary Kivutini School District Grant project in Kenya is underway and will be complete in the coming weeks. Many parents of the school children are participating in the project which provides some much needed income to those families. The old roof has been removed and the walls are being repaired. Due to inflation, the cost of some goods has gone up but the Machakos Rotary Club (Kenya) members have made up the difference. The MSR Kenya Travel Team cannot wait to get there and paint!
The Women of Action team of Rotary volunteers will be returning to Kenya on our 2nd humanitarian trip January 28th for two weeks. The team will be reviewing the progress of The Rotary Foundation Global Grant at the Ngaremara Dispensary and exploring Phase II options of the project.
As part of this trip we will also be conducting additional service projects including a menstrual health project at the Ngaremara Girls Secondary School. Many of the girls that attend this school live in the area served by the dispensary. This project will begin to create an environment where girls feel supported during their menstrual cycle so they can attend classes and not miss out on their education. The project will include both distributing sanitary pads and basic education in menstrual hygiene. We hope that you will join us in supporting this project by donating to our Be The Good Fund 2.0. You may make a tax-deductible donation by clicking here.
We are grateful for your interest and support of our work in Kenya. We plan to keep you updated via email on the continuing work of the projects. You may also follow us on Facebook @MorningStarRotary
