JUL 27, 2023 DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT
Please join the Rotary Club of Bethlehem Morning Star this Thursday, July27th for our Live/Hybrid Meeting. Our meet & greet starts at 7:15am with the regular meeting starting at 7:30am.

We will be holding a very special meeting as we are honored to have "our own" District Governor, Diane Donaher make her official visit.

Diane is a member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club and was a charter member of Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary Club formed in 1989.  She served as President of both clubs and Assistant Governor for Area 2. The Rotary International Council on Legislation voted to allow women as members of Rotary that year—can you image Rotary with only male members today?

With many stories to tell, Diane is grateful to have been part of these important years of Rotary International’s growth and development.  The early days were filled with community projects like ringing the bell for the Salvation Army (always accompanied by her children wearing Santa hats or reindeer antlers!) and fund-raising spaghetti dinners.

Having two small children and experiencing a job change, she moved to the Bethlehem Rotary Club in 2003 to change meeting time and location. As she learned more about Rotary and the opportunity to serve beyond her community, Diane was chair of the district Vocational Service Committee, participated on the Foundation Committee using her professional skills to serve, Diane chaired six District 7430 Conferences.  She is a Paul Harris Fellow +3 , Foundation Benefactor and Bequest Society Level 1 member with her husband, Dean.

Diane’s vocation is nonprofit leadership.  She has inspired thousands of young people through her work with the SkillsUSA Council, led Civic Theatre of Allentown successfully through the Covid challenge and currently serves as Executive Director of Life House helping pregnant women experiencing homelessness with a safe place to be nurtured and mothers of infants with outreach support and material basic needs.

She is a graduate of St Joseph’s University with a master’s degree in Training and Organizational Development and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).  Diane and Dean live in Bethlehem and cherish time with their grown children Darah and Drew.

Diane looks forward to working with all Rotarians this year as we “Create Hope in the World”!

JUL 20, 2023 CLUB MIXER
We had our "Club Mixer" for members to ask questions and interact with Committee Chairs concerning committee responsibilities/opportunities and participation.
This objective was a great success! It proved to be a great opportunity for the members to interact but in a relaxed manner and be focused on the ‘Work of MSR’!

PE Rodney presented a ppt showing Project Leaders, Committee Chairs, and "Others" including Club Officers and Directors. There is an immediate need for Chairs to step up for Membership and Public Image. See the ppt Committees & Projects in the Download section on our MSR website

Youth Committee Volunteers Chair, Jennifer Cunningham, is off and running! Opportunities for Volunteers include Camp Neidig, STEM YEA, International Exchange - both Short and Long Term, and Interact. See her YCV schedule in the Download section on our MSR website

JAN 29 - FEB 10 2024 Kenya Grants and Next Trip Updates - Looking for Volunteers
Good Afternoon MSR!
I hope that everyone is enjoying a safe and happy holiday weekend.

I wanted to update everyone about our two Kenyan grants and invite anyone who is interested to consider coming with us on our next Kenyan working adventure!

Our District Grant - The Machakos School Revitalization School Grant has received final approval from RI. We expect to receive District Grant funds in August and the project will move forward that month as there is a school holiday.

Our Maternal and Child Global Grant has completed all the fine print and the funds have been released to the Isiolo Club. That project will be ongoing for many months and we will provide updates.

Both projects are expected to have additional phases, funded by Rotarians and/or other interested partners so we are planning a second, self-funded trip in late January and would love to include anyone who is interested in joining the team.
Here are the tentative details of the trip:
Dates: Jan 28th - returning Feb 10th (landing in US)
Estimated cost: $3000-$3500: which includes double occupancy lodging, most food, all in-country transportation, economy airfare from JFK (which at this point is around $900) to Nairobi and some fun excursions.
Estimated costs are subject to change and do not include: transportation to JFK, your trip to the travel doctor, visa ($45?), passport, souvenir shopping, alcohol etc..., Last trip, covid vaccines were mandatory to enter the country so if you are an anti-vaxer....
Also note, there is not a single bottle of diet coke in the entire country of Kenya, starting when you get on the plane - but all of the food and drink is delicious

Please talk to Susan (me) Wendy, Janet or Holly if you have additional questions as to how life changing this experience will be. Maximum travelers is 8 (I think) so at this point we have room for 5 more.

You can reach me at: burnetts@rcn.com, 484-226-5254
