On May 12th we conducted a Club Assembly. I announced commencement of an important initiative for our club: we will develop our first Strategic Plan. At the Board meeting the night before, the Officers and Directors engaged in a spirited and invigorating discussion of the topic. So for the Assembly, after a short backstory, I asked everyone in attendance to consider what our MSR Mission Statement might look like. Stimulus – what we do, for whom and how do we accomplish it. The group submitted input on paper by table. We are off to a great start. It is our intention to have input from all our members. ALL ideas are welcome. We will communicate regularly and ask for your support and cooperation in responding to surveys, inquiries, requests, etc. Thank you! The Journey Begins!
The District Training Assemblywas held on Saturday at DeSales University. There was a strong turnout from the Clubs around the District. MSR was well represented with AG Janet Kolepp, President-Elect Sharon Fontana, Past President Jean Searfoss and yours truly in attendance. ‘Membership is Our Business’was the theme of General Session I. GSII focused on The Rotary Foundation Centennialas the Foundation celebrates its 100th year in 2017! Breakout sessions covered Assistant Governor’s & Presidents-Elect; Youth Programs; District Grants; Be a Rotary Champion – Image & Branding; and Secretary/Treasurer Updates. GSIII had a Mini Parade of Flags with 6 of our Exchange Students who were present. Jason Bowen of Emmaus High School gave an encore presentation of his 4-Way Test Contest Speech. Thankfully Lunch was inserted here! Michael Colasurdo, Past Rotary International Director, spoke very passionately on The True Meaning of Rotary Service. (Mike has been serving at the RI level since 2008 in a variety of roles.) Finally there was a Grant Management Seminar in the afternoon. (We currently have at least 6 members fully trained in Grant processing!)
All club members are encouraged to participate in the training opportunities. You learn from other leaders, find inspiration, get new ideas, meet old friends and gain new friends. Rotary is the common bond for anyone wanting to do good in their community. Join for Our Community – Stay for the World!

If you have not already given, please give your Foundation contribution in any amount into Tom Hartzell or the “$2 a Week” Table by May 27 so that he can assure proper credit to both you and the club for our achievement. The Morning Star Rotary Board approved the club Foundation Committee's recommendation to use some club "points" to help members achieve 1,000 dollars/points for their first (or next!) Paul Harris Fellow.
Up to $100 match for new donors this Rotary year. (Initial donors will be only new members, since everyone gave something last year.)
For any of last year’s initial donors who received under $100 match, the club will give an additional match this year, with the total match for the 2 years not to exceed $100.
A brand new points “RAFFLE / LOTTERY”!!!The names of ALL members giving at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation this Rotary year by May 19 will go in a hat. (Each name only once.) At our club meeting on June 2, five names will be picked and offered 300 points each towards their Paul Harris status (whether first or multiple). If a winner does not want the points, he or she can decide what to do with them. (Give to another member, or have the club retain for use in the future.)
Remember, it's NOT about the money - it IS about the wonderful work done with the help of The Rotary Foundation!
