We had the pleasure last meeting of hearing from Dr. Bryon Grigsby, President of Moravian College. Topic: AICUP schools make an impact in Pennsylvania. AICUP = Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania. There are over 90+ colleges and universities in AICUP. (Fiscal Year 2018) $3.4 billion in student spending impact annually 290,000+ students attend annually 195,525 jobs supported & sustained in Pennsylvania $1.1 billion generated in state & local taxes 134 years on average in their communities – led by Moravian College – the 6th oldest college in the country 75,000+ degrees, certificates & diplomas awarded annually $24 billion Annual Economic Impact Local Regional Impact in the Lehigh Valley exceeds $2.1 billion in economic impact with over 16,119 jobs supported and sustained and over $95+ million in state and local tax revenues. Bryon also highlighted at AICUP schools 67% of students choose a career-directed major. This coincides well with the Moravian College historical liberal arts philosophy of education being a life-long endeavor for everyone. At Moravian the objective is to prepare the student for a career by providing the education and tools to be creative and effective problem solvers who can adapt to change and be advocates for continued growth.
