On April 28th, John Oesmann had the distinct pleasure of introducing his ‘favorite younger daughter', Kelsey, to Morning Star Rotary. Kelsey is an Architectural Designer working in Arlington Virginia. She has recently passed all seven of her final licensing exams, and is a Summa Cum Laude Honors Scholar graduate of Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture and Design. She is also a Triathlete and completed her first Marathon last fall.
Kelsey was here to tell us all about how she is combining her leadership qualities, her passion for affordable housing and her desire to continually rise up and stretch her physical limits by undertaking the Bike & Build challenge over the next ten weeks.
Through service-oriented cycling trips, Bike & Build benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults for a lifetime of service and civic engagement. Participants must raise at least $4,500 for cross-country routes. The proceeds are used to fund affordable housing projects across the country executed by young adults. The programs gain media attention around the affordable housing problem, empowering riders to make larger contributions in addressing the needs of their communities.
“I believe stable, affordable housing is the key to so many social issues, from education and employment to healthcare and hunger. I believe that we need to raise the standards of living – both in where we live and how we live. I believe that good design can change lives, communities, and our world, and it starts with decent, affordable homes where people can thrive.”
You can get involved. Follow Kelsey on her adventure …

Special thanks to all the Morning Star Rotarians who assembled at the ranch in Nazareth Saturday and executed a complete refresh on the outdoor riding ring. The group did a tidy job of stripping down the metal rails and applying a nice coat of brick red paint. Additional thanks to Megan and Caroline Hunter, daughters of MSR Bill Hunter, for contributing their time and efforts to help others. Thank you to everyone. Given the size and scope of the operation, there will be opportunities for more service projects at Equi~librium in the future.
