President's Message 5-13-19

Dinner served - another successful spaghetti dinner!!  Thank you, thank you to Val Walk for leading this event and Butch Macri for his culinary skills.  The final numbers are yet to be totaled, but the turnout of MSR members and Victory House volunteers is commendable.  The vibrancy in room was wonderful.  This is Rotary!!

2019-2020 Leadership Update:  A team comprised of Mike Long, Val Walk, Jean Searfoss & John Oesmann will lead our club next Rotary year.  Mike Long has agreed to be the president "of record" with Rotary International, however typical responsibilities will be shared among the team, along with board support.  A full description on this leadership model will be shared at our regular weekly meeting on Thursday, May 30.

At last week's meeting Connie Gilbert gave a wonderful presentation about Art Therapy. She asked us to use aluminum foil to create an image of a place we would like to visit or of a thing we would like to do. It was fun! Among other things, Connie is also the coordinator of the Better Buy Thrift Shop at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity.

Yours in Rotary Service,

JOIN US May 16, TALK, READ & SING

Talk, Read, Sing: Promoting brain development and literacy skills among babies and toddlers

Research shows that by the time children of low-income households enter kindergarten, they have heard 30 million fewer words than those in high-income households.  Karen Rose, of The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, will share how Talk, Read, Sing equips parents and caregivers with simple actions — like describing objects seen during a walk or bus ride, singing songs or telling stories — can significantly improve a baby’s ability to learn new words and concepts.

See you Thursday, May 16th!
AUDREY RAFFERTY MEMORIAL SPAGHETTI DINNER
Our “ARM funraiser” was enjoyed by many people once again. The food was excellent as many guests expressed enthusiasm for “Butch’s Sauce”!

Thank you to all the Morning Star Rotarians who were “the inspiration.” Thank you to the Victory House team which once again provided great support. Chair Val Walk planned and executed a great event for our club. The whole team did a great job!

As you often hear, the job is not finished until the paperwork is done. If you have not as yet submitted payment for your tickets, please bring to this Thursday's meeting. Val and Jean will both be out of town but Ron Searfoss is the designated “Spaghetti Treasurer” for the day and will be happy to collect your funds.
Thanks to all for a great time.
