PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE 10-16-18
At the September board meeting a group of past leadership, new Rotarians and current board members met to explore the opportunities & challenges MSR is facing in the midst of the changing Rotary world.  Our conversation included understanding what qualities are found in leaders for our club.

The following is an excerpt from statement created as a result of this exploration:
A leader in MSR is someone who is adaptable, flexible, leads by example, is open minded and collaborative ........ We believe members "step up" to leadership when there is support and like the people they are leading, ............
Over the next few weeks a nominating committee will be working to put together a slate of officers & directors to lead our club. Our club has a history of great work in our community with committed leadership.    If you are asked to "step-up" to leadership, please thoughtfully consider serving.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Plan-it Janet

(P.S. Due to current business constraints Josh Mrozinski is unable to continue to serve on the MSR board at this time.  We are grateful for Josh's leadership contributions during the last year; specifically to the strategic plan and our fundraising sponsorship efforts.  Thank you Josh!! I am pleased to announce that Gayle Justice has agreed to serve the remainder of Josh's term until 6/30/2019.)
COMING OUT DAY SPEAKER ADRIAN SHANKAR
We were honored last Thursday to hear from Adrian Shankar, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center.
Adrian presented a very thorough talk on the continuing evolution of the LGBT Community and the progress, albeit slow, in achieving equality and acceptance in the overall community.
Recently, Governor Tom Wolf appointed Adrian as a Commissioner on the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs.

DRINKING WITH THE PRESIDENTS

Mark Will-Weber

Mark is a former senior editor for Runner's World Magazine and author of "The Quotable Runner" during that time period. More recently, Will-Weber has explored the quirky subject of what happens when history and alcohol collide--resulting in "Mint Juleps with Teddy Roosevelt: The Complete History of Presidential Drinking" (2014) and "Muskets & Applejack: Spirits, Soldiers and the Civil War" (2017). Both books were published by Regnery History, Washington, D.C.

Mark is a distance runner and coach who has run numerous Morning Star Rotary Celticfest 5k races!
