Just a quick message to fill you in on our “Salute the Troops” Concert and upcoming events. We had a great turnout and everyone was thrilled with the concert. Rod Seifert was our emcee, and he was not only able to talk about what Rotary is and what our club supports in our community and around the world, but also announced that we were dedicating the concert to honor Ron Searfoss for all of his work on the concert and all he did for our club and the district. We will have more statistics of funds raised and tickets sold at an upcoming meeting, but kudos for everyone who helped bring all of this together.
This week we have the November 15th Fellowship event with the Bethlehem Rotary Club for a Thanksgiving luncheon at Moravian Village. Thursday we will be joined by DG Diane Donaher to induct four new members into our club. We hope for a good turnout for this important event. We also have an exciting speaker, Connor Moriarty from Reset Outdoors.
We want all members to mark their calendars for the following events:
starting with moving our First Thursday Social in December to The Clubhouse Grille at the Bethlehem Municipal Golf course on Illick’s Mill Road;
participating in the Children’s Gift Program by either wrapping a shoe box and adding gifts for a specific age based on gift suggestions on the website for the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley; or purchasing and wrapping a gift for ages 2 to 15 (for suggestions on these gifts, check with Enid). Gifts or boxes should be brought to our next meeting or the meeting on Nov. 30th.
December 14th Meeting is moved to Seven Sirens (subject to possible change);
Holiday Meeting on Dec. 21st will be held at Moravian Advent Church on Jacksonville Road where we will be entertained by the Liberty High School Choral Group;
January 6th Holiday Party at a home yet to be determined; and
Bethlehem Emergency Shelter dates for Morning Star: Monday, January 8th, Tuesday, February 13th, and Thursday, March 14th.

With so many opportunities to be a part of the coming events with fellow Rotarians, I am hoping to see many of you there.
The “Salute the Troops” Concert on Sunday, November 12th, honoring our veterans and current members of the US Armed Forces, was a successful and very enjoyable event. The Allentown Band including soloist Chet Brown, the Lehigh Valley Men’s Chorale, and the music students from Northeast Middle School performances were fantastic.
A big MSR “Thank You” to the MSR Rotarians who stepped up to ensure a successful event. Thank you to all MSR Rotarians who sold tickets, solicited sponsors, attended the concert, and those who volunteered to assist on concert day.
Special thanks to all our concert sponsors, especially the major sponsors, Embassy Bank and Wind Creek Bethlehem. Because of all of our sponsors generosity, we are able to continue supporting Victory House of Lehigh Valley and will accomplish many of this year’s other charitable projects.

The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley, through our program Holiday Hope Chests, has been supporting nonprofit organizations who serve children and youth, primarily underserved youth, with donated shoeboxes filled with gifts for the holidays. Since the program’s inception in 1999, we have distributed 75,000+ boxes in the community supporting on average 45-50 nonprofit organizations each year at the holidays. Making a difference and bringing smiles to children during the holidays is what Holiday Hope Chests is all about.
This year, the nonprofit organizations need almost 9,000 shoe boxes. To meet this need, we are looking for new donors and supporters to help us bring extra smiles to children this holiday season. Can you help?
We are hoping to cultivate new donors in Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon Counties, specifically businesses and organizations who have a vested interest in helping the children and families in our community. The Volunteer Center has great systems in place to make this a very simple and organized process to make a difference at the holidays. One shoebox filled with $25 in gifts is all it takes to bring joy during the holidays. Every box is important. And if you want to make a bigger impact, get your co-workers, friends and family involved!

Our greatest needs are gifts for boys, ages 9-10, and gift cards for ages 13+.
Drop off location is the Panther Valley Elementary School at 1 Mermon Ave, Nesquehoning, PA 18240 on the following dates/times: December 4-8 (9AM to 1:30PM) / December 11-15 (9AM to 1:30PM)
The greatest needs are for any gender children, ages 4-10.
At our November 9th meeting, MSR Past President Shawn Bariana spoke to our members about the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. PP Shawn is the Community Relations Manager of the Volunteer Center and presented an overview regarding the services provided by her organization along with information about the Holiday Hope Chest project in which our club continues to participate.
